Destination Boucieu
This historic train ride takes you along the Doux Gorges to Boucieu le Roi called “ the village of a thousand secrets”. The village, overhanging a large part of the river as it twists and turns, is the old capital of Haut-Vivarais with its name originating from Philippe le Bel. The Bailiff’s house is a witness of a rich past : this beautiful building, with its corbelled turret, was the seat of the royal court of justice and listed amongst historical monuments in 1927. Pierre Vigne, a missionary priest also left his mark on the village and lies in his tomb in the church. He was beatified in 2004 by the pope Jean-Paul ll.
Also listed “village de caractère”, meaning very picturesque, Boucieu le Roi is one of the most beautiful villages in North-Ardèche.
